‘Untitled 37’ - bachelor project

‘untitled 37’
Video installation, 2022
Duration: 41 min, playing in loop.

A presence of a naked female body slowly covering herself with play dough forms a fragmentary image. Across the screens, the body is put together in broken pieces and being reshaped through a stream of continuous movements. Play dough is gently placed and gradually tranforms the body through different stages. From having been a naked body to disappearing into an organic lump, the body arises at the end of the video leaving an imprint as a token of its presence.

Over time, the 5 videos are gradually playing out of sync as small shifts occur. For example: Feet can walk out of the picture while legs still remain.

I’m working with the screens as a sculptural extension of the body into its surroundings and the spaces it inhabits. The screens can be placed in various formations according to the space in which the work is placed. If the work is accepted for the exhibition, I would like to exhibit a version where the screens are not in line, as they are shown in these pictures, in order for it to become more fragmented. If done so, the logical structure of the body is now disjointed. As a result, the adjustment in the installation gives space for new interpretations of the work.

Materials: 5 old picture tube televisions, 5 dvd-players and cables. I have all the technical equipment.
Sound: subtle real sound played through the built-in speakers in the televisions.
